Our 20 year journey toward sustainable farming began when the Internet was a mere 5 years old and most people were just beginning to realize that organic farming was not a new type of farming but rather one that was old, very old. Without the wonderful World Wide Web, we began to search high and low for farming and health books that predated soybeans, chemicals fertilizers and pesticides as well as our new-found nutritional “wisdom”. Our frequent question was “what did they do before…” and we would usually find the answers in books from the early 1900’s. Whenever we found such a book we snatched it up along with the newer books from pioneering authors such as Gene Logsdon, Wendell Berry, Michael Pollan and Nina Planck. Our collection of health, gardening, farming, homesteading and cookbooks has grown into what is now our Lending Library. Please feel free to stop by, slow down and sit a spell in our Reading Room and peruse our Lending Library.
We now have over 150 books available in our lending library and that number is growing weekly. We have many diet and health books, cookbooks, farming and gardening as well as all of the latest magazines for you to check out. The $20.00 annual fee for the lending library helps to increase the library and replace lost or damaged books.
Our Lending Library is housed in our quiet and comfortable Sitting room. Down filled chairs, a cozy fire and exquisite paintings by local artist Ruthann Fryer welcome you to stop, browse the bookshelves and sit a spell. We supply recipe cards and beautiful fountain pens to jot down promising recipes. If you have a recipe that has become a family favorite please bring some copies and participate in our recipe exchange.
